How to Insert a Picture into Post in Wordpress

Posted on | July 10, 2009 | No Comments

Adding a picture to a post in WordPress is easy. The best way to do this is through WordPress itself, using WP’s powerful “Add An Image” system. To do this, first follow the steps found in How to Create a Blog Post in Wordpress. Once you are ready to insert an image into your post, move the cursor to where you want the image to be inserted and click the “Add An Image” Button

This will cause the “Add An Image” dialogue to pop up. There are four options to select where to get the image from, located on the top of the dialogue:

  • Add a title. The title and caption can often be the same thing, but the title is needed for WordPress’ purposes.
  • All the other options on the page are optional, although they can be helpful.
    • The caption is the text which will appear under the photo on the page.
    • The description is a more detailed description of the image
    • The Link URL is where the picture will direct the reader once the image has been clicked. This can be used to bring the user to another site, such as Google.com, to another post on your blog, or used in conjunction with plugins to produce other effects.
    • The alignment is where the picture is placed upon the page.
    • Size is how big WordPress scales the image in the post.
      • N.B. The “Open Using LightBox” option in the picture is a plugin we are using on our blog to allow a LightBox effect, and does not come with the default WordPress installation. If you are interested in using this plugin, please contact us at Pica Design.
  • Finally, just click “Insert into Post” to place the image in your post.
